BUT WHY? Apart from the fun of it?!
Next Spring a small group of local people is going to help ‘Heal Africa’, a grass-roots organisation in Goma on the Congo-Rwanda boarder. And first they need to raise lots of money!
John Sainsbury, from Outreach House Church, who is leading the team, says: “HEAL Africa do an incredible job healing those who have suffered so much in conflicts and natural disasters. Medics and counsellors, agriculturalists and teachers, outreach workers and pastors are, quite literally, putting broken lives back together again: physically, emotionally and spiritually.
“When people pull together, they can make a huge difference. We’re so privileged to live in this wonderful Lakeland community where people really do look after and care for each other. We want to share that with people across the world who have so little. No specific skills are required... just a big heart! When we go, the Congo team will put our people’s skills to good use, especially meeting the enormous needs of traumatised women and displaced children. It could be as simple as playing football or giving some basic English lessons.”
“We’re really hoping that some kind of ‘twinning’ arrangement might grow between our little village here and the people we want to help in Goma. There’s so much we can learn from them and much we can offer. We will be doing a considerable amount of fun fund raising to raise the money we need.”
Witherslack Welly Weekend will be on Saturday 10.10.2009 starting at 12noon at Dean Barwick School, Witherslack.
PLEASE COME AND JOIN IN THE FUN! WE NEED AT LEAST 250 WELLY-WEARING CONGA-PARTICIPANTS - young and old and everyone in between!
Any old wellies, rejected wellies, smelly wellies... can be taken to Outreach House, The Barn, Little Strickland Hill, Witherslack. LA11 6SA!
