The opening of the new Bay Cycleway takes place between 11 and 14 June - (see here for details) and the riders will be stopping briefly in Witherslack outside the shop/pub on Saturday 13 June at around 10.30am.  
It would be great to see a few people there to welcome the riders - bring the kids and perhaps ride along the old road with the 30/35 cyclists.

Witherslack Vengetable Show takes place on Friday 28 August at 7.30pm at Witherslack Parish Hall.

Due to changes to their private contract with Dallam School, the 531 Grange over Sands to Dallam will cease to operate Friday 18 September.

This change has however allowed Stagecoach to extend the 14:35 Cartmel to Kendal service, so that it will now run every Monday to Friday, rather than only in School Holidays, providing a useful additional journey where the Travellers Choice 532 is not running. This will start from 21st September.

Following a comprehensive review, Witherslack Hall School has made the decision to change its name. 

The decision, which involved both staff and students, has been made based upon the significant changes that have recently taken place at the school and also the fact that, as a service, Special Educational Needs has changed markedly over recent years. 

The perception that Special Educational Needs schools were for the ‘bad lads’ has long since gone and there is now a far greater appreciation of the complex needs which affect young people today.

Therefore, from the start of the new academic year the school will take the name of Oversands School.  The official change over date was Monday August 10th and from then on you will notice small changes, such as new signage, the school website and, upon the start of the new term, new school uniforms.

Stagecoach is making changes to its 530 Service in the Grange-over-Sands area, from September, due to the loss of schools contracts after a re-tender exercise.
The changes are marked on the timetable, with red/pink journeys withdrawn and yellow and Green journeys re-timed. Unshaded journeys are unchanged.
The popular 09:30 Cartmel to Kendal will continue to operate, but the 12:15 and 14:05 returns from Kendal are both withdrawn and replaced by a trip from Kendal at 13:30.
The changes will take place from 7 September. See the timetable below.

The fifth annual Dean Barwick Mountain Bike Challenge will be held on Saturday 4 July 2015.

Those up for the challenge can choose between timed mountain trail biking routes of 25km or 40km. The specially designed courses use bridleways, off-road tracks and exclusive trails on private land, which will be available for this day only, making it a unique way to experience biking through the area.

The event is one in a series being held to raise money for a range of important improvements to the school.

Under-16 riders are welcome with an accompanying adult.

Witherslack Community Shop urgently requires several new committee members as from July 2015, with approximately six meetings a year.  
In particular, the committee needs a new treasurer, to work with the part-time book-keeper, to assist with Sage Accounts and provide financial information and management accounts to the committee.   
Approximately eight hours a month, plus committee meetings and assisting with stock checks several times a year.

The AGM is to be held on Monday 29 July at 7.30 pm.

Well done to Rachel and Donna - they coped admirably with the 35+ riders and visitors that descended on the shop on Saturday. We had nearly £30 donations for tea and coffee, plus I saw lots of drinks, cordial and snacks among the throngs outside the shop - nearly everyone seemed to go in the shop over the half hour they stayed.  

We had loads of compliments from riders and organisers and many of the cyclists said they would be passing on their experience to fellow cyclists. There were loads of photos being taken by all sorts of people - so we will no doubt go viral very soon!
