The decision, which involved both staff and students, has been made based upon the significant changes that have recently taken place at the school and also the fact that, as a service, Special Educational Needs has changed markedly over recent years.
The perception that Special Educational Needs schools were for the ‘bad lads’ has long since gone and there is now a far greater appreciation of the complex needs which affect young people today.
Therefore, from the start of the new academic year the school will take the name of Oversands School. The official change over date was Monday August 10th and from then on you will notice small changes, such as new signage, the school website and, upon the start of the new term, new school uniforms.
The future is very exciting for Oversands School. Our current projects include creating a Primary provision, a separate post-16 residential unit and a new Art & Design classroom, in addition to a new on-site therapy team. All this means that the school will be better equipped than ever to meet the needs of the increasing number of young people placed at the school.
